The Rashtriya Indian Military College is an Inter Services Institute and a Category 'A' establishment of the Ministry of Defence alongside institutions like National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Officers' Training Academy, Chennai, and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The College provides public school education to young boys in the age group of 11 1/2 to 18 years specially selected through an All India competitive examination. A dedicated feeder to the National Defence Academy and the NAVAC Academy. The College aims to send maximum boys to the NDA/NAVAC. Hence it puts emphasis on complete education and all round personality development of the cadets. However in the event of a boy not joining the NDA due to any reason, the RIMC guarantees, through the five years of academic course, that he attains enough academic proficiency to get admission in any professional or any other college in the Country.

Rashtriya Military schools were eastablished as King George's Royal Indian Military schools to take care of the education of the sons of defence personnel. In 1952, the schools were reorganized on Public School lines and admissions were made open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and civilians. In 1954, the school became member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member till date. The schools were renamed Military Schools in 1966 and its old motto, 'Play the Game' was replaced with 'Sheelem Param Bhushanam' which means Character is the Highest Virtue. On 25th Jun 2007, the schools got their present name "Rashtriya Military School". The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland. Rashtriya Military schools total 5 in India

The Sainik Schools are a system of schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society. They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer cadre of the Indian Military, and to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune and Indian Naval Academy. Today there are over 33 such schools covering all the states of the country.The schools come under the purview of respective state governments and Ministry of Defence.

The 12th Feb, 1993 was the most auspicious day when the foundation stone of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ratibad, Bhopal was laid down by Hon Shri Arjun Singh, the present Education Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The school campus covers around 30.67 acres of forested with its buildings connected by steep and windy paths and offering spectacular views at every turn. These buildings include the beautiful old Quad, the modern state of art infrastructure and the newly-refurbished student hostels and staff houses. The academic buildings including several classrooms are linked by a computer network. The widespread use of email and an intranet system shrinks the distances and keeps staff, students and administration in quick and easy contact with one another. The school is located on Sehore Bhopal Road at village Ratibad, Bhopal.
